Vanced Manager Not Working?

Pick the symptom you are seeing. Each one is marked as something you can still act on, or something that ended with the project, so you do not waste time on fixes that cannot work.

The short answer

Most failures today trace back to one cause you cannot fix on a phone: the servers Vanced Manager downloaded from were shut down in March 2022.

Why that matters

Caused by the shutdown Cannot be fixed on your phone

Vanced Manager did not contain Vanced. It asked Team Vanced's API which versions existed, then downloaded files from Team Vanced's servers. In March 2022 the team announced the backend was shut down and all download sources removed. Source: discontinuation notice (opens in a new tab)

  • Downloads fail, stall or show “Unavailable”

    Cause
The manager cannot reach the Vanced API or its mirror. Version 2.3.0 added a mirror fallback for outages, but both were retired with the project.
    Today
No setting, cache clear or reinstall brings the files back. No official server provides them anymore.
  • Vanced opens, but videos or sign-in fail

    Cause
This is the Vanced app, not the manager. Team Vanced's docs noted in April 2023 that Vanced had started to stop working for many people as Google phases out old app versions.
    Today
No manager action helps. Team Vanced itself pointed users back to the official YouTube app.
  • Problems on newer Android versions

    Cause
Android 12 support arrived in 2.6.1, and 2.6.2 targets API 31. Every later Android release came out after the project ended.
    Today
Behavior on later Android versions was never tested by Team Vanced and is unpredictable.
  • A site offers a “new” or “fixed” Vanced Manager

    Cause
Team Vanced said the project would not return under another name or logo. Version 2.6.2 is the end of the line.
    Today
Treat any newer “Vanced Manager” as unknown software, however official the page looks.

Device-side problems You can act on these

Error wording is paraphrased from the manager's 2.6.2 interface text. Fixing these will not restore downloads, but it can clean up a broken setup.

  • “App not installed” or a package conflict

    Cause
Android refuses to install an app over one signed with a different key. The manager reported this as a conflict with an installed app.
    Today
Uninstall the existing copy first. But ask why the signatures differ: an APK signed differently from the original is not the original build.
  • Corrupted, invalid or incompatible files

    Back then
The manager suggested clearing downloaded files in Settings and downloading again, because partial downloads often caused this.
    Today
Re-downloading through the manager is impossible. A file from elsewhere that Android calls corrupt should be deleted, not forced.
  • MIUI optimization errors on Xiaomi phones

    Back then
Installs failed while MIUI optimizations were on; the manager told users to switch them off in developer settings. Some xiaomi.eu ROMs from 20.2.20 on were exempt.
    Today
The setting can still be changed, but it will not fix missing downloads. If you change it to test something, switch it back.
  • Root: “Magisk not detected” or root not granted

    Cause
Root mode needed Magisk and root permission for the manager. 2.6.2 explicitly checks for Magisk.
    Today
Granting root does not solve the server problem. Leave a working stock install alone.
  • “Downgrade” installation error

    Back then
Android blocks installing an older build over a newer one. The manager advised uninstalling updates from the stock app first.
    Today
Rolling back stock YouTube to run an unsupported mod is not worth the security cost of outdated software.
  • Google Play Protect warns or blocks the install

    Cause
Play Protect checks apps from outside the Play Store and flags ones it considers potentially harmful.
    Today
Do not turn Play Protect off to push an install through. An old, unverifiable APK is exactly what it exists for. Source: Google Play Help (opens in a new tab)

Stay safe

Fixes worth trying, and fixes to avoid

Reasonable

  • Uninstall leftover Vanced, Music, microG and manager apps you no longer use.
  • Revoke Install unknown apps from apps that do not need it.
  • Update stock YouTube from Google Play to get a supported client back.
  • Read the ReVanced comparison to understand a maintained alternative.

Not worth the risk

  • Turning off Play Protect or APK signature verification.
  • Granting root, accessibility or device-admin rights to an APK you cannot trace.
  • Installing “Vanced Manager” builds dated after October 2021.
  • Entering your Google password into an app from an unknown source.
