Vanced Manager for Android By Team Vanced · open source (GPL-3.0) · 2020–2021

Vanced ManagerThe one-tap installer behind YouTube Vanced, explained.

Vanced Manager downloaded, installed and updated YouTube Vanced, Music Vanced and Vanced microG for you. Here is what it did, every release up to 2.6.2, and exactly what is still available.

  • Final version 2.6.2
  • Android 5.0+

Discontinued in March 2022. Team Vanced shut down the servers the app downloaded from, so it can no longer install anything. See the release status.

What it is

An installer, not the YouTube app

YouTube Vanced shipped as a bundle of split packages and needed a companion app for Google sign-in. Installing that by hand defeated plenty of people.

Team Vanced built Vanced Manager to handle it: fetch the right files for your phone, install them in root or non-root mode, and keep everything updated. The first release arrived on June 30, 2020; 19 releases later, version 2.6.2 in October 2021 was the last.

Ad blocking and background play were features of YouTube Vanced itself. The manager was the plumbing that delivered it.

Features

Everything Vanced Manager handled

Documented in the app's interface text and release notes, and described here as it worked while the servers were live.

All features
  • Split APKs installed as one app

Vanced came as several split packages. The manager picked the parts that matched your device, theme and language, then installed them together. That was its whole reason to exist.

  • Root and non-root

Install beside stock YouTube, or replace it on Magisk-rooted phones. 2.6.2 added a Magisk check.

  • microG first

Reminded non-root users to install Vanced microG before Vanced so Google sign-in worked.

  • Theme and languages

Pick the Dark or Black theme and one or more languages before downloading.

  • Updates in one place

Installed vs. latest versions, with update, reinstall, launch and uninstall actions.

Not manager features: ad-free playback, background play and picture-in-picture were built into YouTube Vanced. The manager only delivered it.

Who did what

First-run setup

Three screens, three decisions

The setup flow asked only what mattered, then did the rest.

  1. Root or non-rootReplace YouTube with Magisk, or install alongside it.
  2. Choose your appsVanced, Music or both. microG first for non-root.
  3. Theme, language, versionThen the manager downloaded and installed everything.

How it worked

Installing Vanced, the original way

A few minutes, start to finish, while Team Vanced's backend was online.

Full install guide
  1. Sideload the manager

Get the APK from Team Vanced and allow your browser to install unknown apps.

  2. Pick a mode

Non-root installs beside YouTube; root replaces it and needs Magisk.

  3. Install microG

Non-root only: add Vanced microG so Google sign-in works.

  4. Download & install

The manager fetched the split packages from Team Vanced's servers.

Quick answers

Vanced Manager questions

Does Vanced Manager still work?

Not as designed. It downloaded everything from Team Vanced servers that were shut down in March 2022. An installed copy may open, but it has nothing official to install.

What is the latest Vanced Manager version?

Version 2.6.2, published on GitHub on October 11, 2021. No release followed it. Anything labeled newer, including “2026” versions, did not come from Team Vanced.

Is there a safe Vanced Manager APK download?

No original APK remains on GitHub, and copies elsewhere cannot be checked against an official source. The download page explains what is left and how to judge files you find.

Is Vanced Manager the same as ReVanced Manager?

No. ReVanced Manager is a separate, active project that patches apps on your device. See the side-by-side comparison.
