Features
Vanced Manager Features
A focused tool: Vanced Manager installed, customized and updated the Vanced apps so you never had to wrestle with split APK files. Here is everything it did while its servers were running, and where its job ended and YouTube Vanced began.
These features are historical.
They depended on Team Vanced's download servers, shut down in March 2022. Descriptions come from the app's interface text and release notes; version tags show when a feature first appeared in the release history.
Features by group
Install
Getting Vanced onto the phone
-
Split APK installation Core
Downloaded the parts of Vanced that matched your device and installed them as one app. Both installers were rewritten in 2.5.0 and 2.5.1 for reliability.
-
Root installs with Magisk Root
Replaced stock YouTube on rooted phones using a boot script for mounting, with an adjustable script timer (2.2.0) and a Magisk check (2.6.2).
-
microG-aware non-root setup Non-root
Installed Vanced as a separate app and reminded you to install Vanced microG first, since Google sign-in depended on it.
Customize
Choosing what to install
-
Vanced theme choice
Pick the Dark or Black flavor of Vanced before download; the manager fetched the matching theme package.
-
Multi-language downloads 1.2.0
Select one or more interface languages and get them all in a single download.
-
Version selector 2.0
Choose a specific Vanced or Music build instead of always taking the newest, useful when a release misbehaved on a phone.
Maintain
Keeping everything current
-
Update center
Compared installed and latest versions, with update, reinstall, launch and uninstall actions, and could update the manager itself.
-
YouTube Music Vanced 1.3.0
Installed and updated the Music edition alongside Vanced. A root variant of Music followed in 2.0.
-
Logs and in-app guide 2.4.0
A logs screen with a save option made bug reports easier, and a Guide button pointed new users to instructions.
Settings & checks
Small touches that prevented failed installs
Beyond installing, the settings screen tuned the manager itself, and it warned you before a known device quirk broke an install.
- Light or dark manager theme and a custom accent color (2.1.0)
- Per-app update notifications for Vanced, Music and microG
- Chrome Custom Tabs toggle for opening links
- Clear downloaded files to free space or fix a corrupted download
- Firebase analytics toggle for performance and crash reports (1.2.0)
Warnings it showed
Paraphrased from the 2.6.2 interface text.
- MIUI optimizations on: Vanced could not install until they were switched off in developer settings.
- Magisk/TWRP edition detected: that older edition could not be updated by the manager.
- microG missing: install Vanced microG before non-root Vanced.
- Unsafe sources: download only from the team's own site, Discord or GitHub.
Manager vs. Vanced
Which app did what
Many lists credit the manager with Vanced's features. The manager never played a video; this table shows where each capability lived.
| Capability | Provided by | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Installing split APKs | Vanced Manager | Its main purpose |
| Updates and uninstalling | Vanced Manager | For Vanced, Music and microG |
| Root mounting over stock YouTube | Vanced Manager | Required Magisk |
| Dark / Black theme | YouTube Vanced, chosen in the manager | The manager downloaded the theme you picked |
| Ad-free playback | YouTube Vanced | Built into the modified client |
| Background play & picture-in-picture | YouTube Vanced | Features YouTube reserves for Premium in its own app |
| Google account sign-in | Vanced microG | Required for non-root Vanced |
What still works today
Very little. The manager could only show and install what Team Vanced's API offered, and that API is gone: an installed copy may open, but downloads fail. Separately, Team Vanced's documentation repository noted in April 2023 that Vanced itself had started to stop working for many people, because YouTube retires old app versions over time.
